4 inch sandpaper for my drum sander wheres the best place to get it. Instead it drops down into the box, allowing for easier dust collection.

Klingspor brand stearate coated paper will sand pine, paint and even nails without damaging the sandpaper, a savings to the user. It should not be as large as it should be if you were using a lathe.

General questionif you were to use a hole saw on the discs, say, three holes per disc, and then glue them up, would it affect the performance of the drum? You are right that made me drool! This is fantastic. While one could get away with only one of them, they were relatively cheap and this allows me to see if the table is raising linearly or whether some micro adjustments are needed to bring it into the same plane as the drum.

I am also interested in any information that is still available? After this is done, get some glue and stick sandpaper unto the drum. Although I am still considering buying a new lunchbox planer just to save some time and effort, I can feed through 4 or 5 boards at a time.

I then chucked up a diamond wheel in my trusty 4.5 angle grinder, clamped a steel straight edge to the granite where I wanted to cut it, ran the hose on it, and cut away. Anyway, this doesnt have any specific disadvantages over a geared lead screw system, its just more expensive for no good reason. Hey Matt, I just happened to stumbled across this old post. (I am in WA staste). Sorry about the late response, am a little behind. Anyway, being able to build a full sized raised panel cabinet door or face frame and feed it through is amazing. Just curious. If you let me suggest one thing, that I have in mind for mine and it seems it could pefectly adapt to your: add a disc sander to one of the ends, put a baseplate, etc. Typically, drum sanders are just a little complex to build, but with the tutorials above, building it should not be too challenging. That looks like an awful lot of work to build, but worth it!

I frequently use intermediate speeds, depending on how much material Im sanding off. Great project. Nice job. Itll have an MDF drum similar to yours but its around 20 inches long. At any rate, it contains the power supplies, ammeter for determining the load on the motor, potentiometers for controlling the speed of the tables up/down movement as well as the conveyor belt speed, some speed controller boards I soldered up, some switches, and some extraneous touches like power supplies to drive LEDs inside the switches (so I can tell if the motors are on or not). Firstly it lifts paper off the drum creating an air gap.

The linear bearings and table lift jacks were almost $400 themselves, though, so Im still convinced it could be done for cheaper.
