Always stand to the side. A thin bead of silicone is then smeared on to glue the screen to the frame: I let that dry for a few hours then removed the nails.
I dont have a dust collector yet, so building the stand with dust cabinet was appealing for not only collecting chips and dust out of the blower on the planer but also an all-in-one solution of sorts made sense in my garage where I have very limited space (you can see I share space with bikes, a refrigerator, and a few household items.)
Do you think that would solve that issue? Being the frugal, do-it-yourself type that I am, I figured it would be a good project to make a stand that included infeed and outfeed tables. With the basics done, it was time to get started on building the infeed / outfeed. As always eye protection is a must, and also be sure to check out our selection of masks and respirators.

As an example, if you work with 10' boards, shoot for about 13' of clearance on either end of the planer. I used the same method on my folding miter saw stand to good effect. I have mine set up with roughly 24" lonh hose into the side of a garbage bin with the lid cut and a screen in it to let out air. Small particles get out nothing major . That was a problem I was having with the planer: the polished bed was sticky, and the feed rollers couldnt put the stock properly. The only thing left to make before I can test it is the filter. Then the bottom shelf is glued and nailed to the stretchers: I put the planer on the stand to get an idea of where it needs to be. Works great.
Check out this digital read-out for a great option that fits a wide variety of planers, including the DeWalt benchtop planers.

The outfeed side comes out a bit further, and I put precisely cut pieces of maple between the melamine bed and the top of the stand as spacers. It fits neatly in the space beneath the outfeed table: The filter screen stopped all of the fine shavings, and despite the filter being this clogged, there didnt seen to be any reduction in airflow. To make the stand easy to move around, I made these casters: I got the wheels from a pair of cheap, fixed casters and bolted them to the 1/2; plywood brackets. No leaks and the filter on the side catches all of the very limited amount of dust that makes its way up the baffle into the upper chamber. I used my long reach clamps to hold it down while I fasten it in place: Just two screws through the outfeed and into the maple blocks hold it.
